This review is difficult to write, as I unfortunately came out of Rhy Nicholson’s show ‘Nice People Nice Things Nice Situations,’ surprisingly disappointed.

Technically the jokes were good, but the overall performance came across as lacklustre. It started strong, but then seemed to peak all too soon. I noticed the laughs became scattered, and numerous audience members began to check their phones/watches around the 35minute mark.

Rhys read aloud an email he received from a member of the public, criticising his role within the LGBT+ Community, and it is at this point we were given an insight into the inspiration behind the title of the show. However, even this integral moment seemed brushed over and lacking – such a pity.

Overall, as energetic as Rhys may have tried to be, it just didn’t seem like he was enjoying his own show. Did he want to be there? Is he okay? Whatever the reason, hopefully I just caught him on a “off day,” because I’ve always enjoyed his performances in the past. I will also continue to support his stand up career, as previous performances have shown him to be incredibly funny.

Catch Rhy’s show at Underbelly, Bristo Square (Friesian), every day at 8:40PM. Tickets available here: https://tickets.edfringe.com/whats-on/rhys-nicholson-nice-people-nice-things-nice-situations
