Following the success of last year’s show, ‘Ginster’s Paradise’ is the next instalment in the ‘Chipolata Trilogy’. As a first time watcher of The Delightful Sausage, unfortunately, I didn’t get it. Normally I thoroughly enjoy absurd comedy, I’ve always sought it as a relief from your normal stand-up comic; but I struggled to get on board with this show.

Although the audience in today seemed to be having a great time, I wasn’t sure if these were returning fans from last year’s performance, and I was just the newbie who was left behind. I didn’t enjoy the characters, which is quite crucial when watching an absurd narrative like this. Instead, I found them rather irritating, overly cheesy, and boring at times.

It required some patience before we finally reached an interesting point of the story; however, even when the plot started to thicken, I found myself already mentally checked out. The only unexpected redeeming element, was the guest appearance of the creepy Mr Whippy mascot; this was a well-choreographed skit and the only moment in the show I found myself laughing.

My initial thoughts are, that I feel I would’ve enjoyed the show more if I had watched this duo at last year’s Fringe; which could very well be the case. However, I think the show still needs to have legs as a stand alone performance, so that individuals like myself are still able to have a good time.

Maybe next year I’ll have a better time – I hope…
